Siegel & Strain Architects

Siegel & Strain Architects is an Emeryville-based design firm that has gained national attention for combining design excellence with sustainable strategies and research – inseparable aspects of good design. With each project we aim for simple and durable design that meets client aspirations and are deeply rooted in a particular place. Based on the ecology of that place, we refine our sustainable strategies, research new materials and share lessons learned with our colleagues. We believe that a highly collaborative and participatory design process leads to better buildings and master plans. We have been fortunate to work with an extraordinary caliber of clients on a wide range of civic, educational, mission-based and historic preservation design projects. The firm has received over 60 awards for design, sustainable design and design research. We have received international and national awards, including four Top Ten Green Projects awards from the American Institute of Architects, and have completed LEED Platinum and LEED Gold projects. The work of the firm has been featured in Architect, Dwell, Green Source and other national magazines and in many books on design and sustainable design. Our research has been widely disseminated through publications, teaching and lectures presented at universities and at national and regional conventions.
