STEINBAUER architektur+design
STEINBAUER architektur+design,
was founded in 2018 in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. The office has been working on projects with a wide variety of tasks, but always with the same common principle - loyalty to architecture and to oneself. Oliver Steinbauer studied construction design and economics as well as architecture in Graz. His work experience include "Behnisch Architekten" in Germany and "marte.marte architekten" in Vorarlberg. The first competition successes followed soon after the founding, such as the second place for the World Expo in Dubai 2020 and the first place in the international architectural competition for the revitalization of the tobacco factory in Linz by Peter Behrens. Selected residential projects were created, which were followed by international architecture awards, such as the gold label of the “German Design Awards”. "STEINBAUER architektur+design" has been a member of the Chamber of Civil Engineers in Austria and in 2022 Oliver Steinbauer was named in Athens by the "European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies" for one of the "40 under 40 architects" in Europe.
The office finds inspiration in the simple things, like a wonderfully tactile material in its raw state. STEINBAUER's architecture often reflects the principle of "adding something simple and tested" out of creativity and attention to detail to create something completely new and unique. Exemplified at the “Havana House” project – where life was breathed back into a formerly unexposed tobacco storehouse by adding 70,000 ordinary glass blocks.
The framework of every project is the intensive examination of the location, the constant involvement of all users and the tireless work with repetitive steps of reduction and concentration. Through intense and personal dedication, something indefinite but new emerges that is more than just built space.
