Studio 505

Architects from -, -, Australia
studio505 was an architecture and design studio based in Melbourne, Australia. The studio practised from 2003 through to the end of 2015, and worked locally and around the world and successfully completed some ground breaking and world leading projects both in Australia and South East Asia. Directors Dylan Brady and Dirk Zimmermann led the studio with an energetic synergy and a complementary architectural partnership, developed and maintained since working together on Federation Square at the beginning of the century. Their partnership fused artistic spirit with technical knowledge for the studio’s clients and projects, and over the last 10 years together they have achieved great outcomes for courageous clients and innovative projects alike. 2016 has seen the creation of two new independent practices founded on the success of studio505 and bringing a rejuvenated and renewed energy to the both directors personal focus. The new businesses, each sharing the combined workbook and history of studio505, have forged ahead as independent endeavours, with Dylan conducting the team at Decibel Architecture (www.db-a.co) and Dirk as a Director of Himmelzimmer (www.himmelzimmer.com).

studio505 worked with complex briefs that were considered at all levels; from aesthetics and community through to constructability and structural identity. studio505 developed an enthusiastic approach to the exploration and communication of its architectural ideology. The new practices double down on this enthusiasm, and have re-invested their combined knowledge to guide and grow their visions in the world. The studio505 team has been wide and varied over the years, and we thank every one of them for their contributions and efforts. The new practices have maintained and refreshed the connections and collaborations with our extended network of makers, thinkers and consultants, so we can continue to bring together a vast and intriguing selection of possibilities in the design world.
