Founded in New York in 2017, Studio Galeón develops tailored and imaginative solutions to design challenges. Studio Galeón develops close relationships with clients to intuit and translate their desires into subtle but meaningful decisions that cohere in complete environments generated with moments of surprise and discovery. To realize these holistic experiences, the firm engages craftspeople in various arts such as glass-blowing, woodworking, metalwork, who similarly understand how honest, natural materials can instigate more intimate relationships with visitors within the firm’s retail, office, and residential spaces. Ultimately, Studio Galeón believes that the world should be a kinder, gentler place and works together with clients and collaborators who share these values.
THE HIDDEN REVEAL
When a visitor enters a new space, they suspend a sense of belief. One gives themselves over to the experience of being somewhere entirely new and they trust that the space will reveal its function and adhere to tried and true typologies. Studio Galeón is inspired by this risk. The studio constantly considers new ways of rendering architectural programs that slowly communicate their functional value. These small riddles are generous, not deceitful; playful, not ironic. They sometimes take the form of rooms hidden by bold colonnades, unexpected pairings of materials that challenge the sense of touch, and architectural elements combined in wide ranges in size and scale to forge exaggerated perception of depth. In each of these instances, and many more, Studio Galeón wishes to inspire visitors with moments of astonishment and intrigue that fuel their imaginations.
MATERIAL EXPLORATION
Without natural elements, luxury is sterile and derivative – there’s little for one to relate to. Studio Galeón goes beyond simply specifying readymade elements or furniture and instead designs, crafts, and realizes custom architectural interiors made from natural materials and palettes that reflect a client’s desires and the context of the site. Tactility and durability are values central to the studio. It researches, sources, and tests materials from trusted collaborators who jointly design and fabricate custom details, furniture pieces, and architectural elements to generate comprehensive environments and spaces.
