The definition study launched by the city of Evreux had proposed to reorganize and reinvent the public space surrounding the cathedral. The organization of the space – fragmented, filled with disparate elements and suffering from heterogenous treatments – engendered confusion and couldn’t provide a clear historical reading of the site.

Our project offers a new urbanistic understanding of the heart of city’s heritage, while developing a diversity of sites and situations through its inscription within the wider context of the public spaces of the city of Evreux and its equipment.
The large forecourt implements a new balance which anchors the cathedral at the level of the city’s ground, extending the shared space which now favors the decrease of the flow of traffic.

The freed surfaces take on a clarified and homogeneous treatment, and offer a ground from multiple urban scenes, ranging from playing, organizing outdoors exhibitions, to favoringencounters.

The extension of the museum and its promenade, which lean against the Gallo-Roman outer wall, turns this former boundary into at urban pathway. At the South of the cathedral, the orchard is punctuated by clearings and sculpted terrasses.
