The Castillo House is a usual type of project request in the City of Buenos Aires. These appear as actualization requirements of the original domestic typology of the city subjected to the new market rules and the changes in the buildable parameters: the “casa chorizo”, a typological relative of the roman house, that has as a genetic characteristic in its historical development of the patio that runs through the lot connecting the indoor areas.
In this opportunity, this old house dated at mid 30s of the last century, that had been remodeled in various opportunities, required increasing its capacity of cubic meters, while incorporating a space dedicated to a plastic arts studio.
This resulted in the conservation of the spatial structure on the ground floor, perforating the walls that were compatible to the new programmatic distribution, while assembling this robust and old construction to a new and light structure that achieves the new required spaces.
At the same time, the logic that explains the way of using and exploring the house positions strategically two stairways: one at the end of the lot, of private use, and one at the front of the lot that serves as the connection from the street to the studio.
The Castillo House is another chapter in the manners through which the matrix of the city investigates and experiments its preservation and contemporary actualization.
