The client was a pre-adolescent child, with a very narrow bedroom in a pre-war apartment building. The existing room had two points of entry on opposite long walls, making it a very tight space. To make room for a full-sized loft-bed, desk and storage where before there was only a twin-sized bed, we removed a shallow closet which provided an extra 6 inches for the loft’s steps.
Above, we moved asurface-mounted light away from the center of the ceiling, added an L-shaped wall-mounted shelf – and reused existing crown molding to wrap the edges of the shelfso asto better integrate it within the room. The desk-top has a built-in duplex outlet beneath one shelf. And the bed-frame has a sliding, removable corner to allow for easier tucking-in of sheets.
At the other side of the desk& built-in bureau drawers, beneath the head of the bed above, additional taller storage is provided, with a clothing hang-bar and interior lighting.
