For the GFT Group’s new corporate center in the Fasanenhof neighborhood of Stuttgart’s Möhringen district, an existing office building was renovated and refurbished and augmented by the construction of a new restaurant on the ground floor.

This was achieved by adding an autonomous, single-story building next to the existing GFT building, to which it is functionally attached. The position of the new building creates an introverted outdoor space to the rear, oriented to the west, that directly adjoins the new restaurant. The extension ties the building more firmly to Schelmenwasenstraße in the front, where a ramp defines the new main entrance.

In our design, the restaurant, whose long sides are fully glazed, forms a new entry situation for the GFT headquarters and encloses a garden courtyard that can be used as a hortusconclusus, or enclosed garden, by employees and external visitors alike as a place of concentration and reflection. Exposed concrete surfaces and glass define the atmosphere of the new building. To create a kindred mood, the old building was also stripped down to the raw building shell in some areas. As a result, the office spaces exude an experimental and innovative charm.
