Start building November 2010. Completion mid May 2011
The LVI is a building with offices as well as laboratory functions. The design of the facade elements has been derived from the shape of virus strands through which the facade expresses the function of the building. Using composite material has given project architect Ir. Henk Stadens of Bureau De ZwarteHond a lot of freedom to make this design feasible. With other materials this would not have been possible. Next to freedom of design also the low-maintenance feature and the positive influence regarding CO2 reduction have been of the utmost importance when choosing the material.
The complete facade will be built by Rocx Gevelconstructies. Rocx is a partnership between two market leaders in the field of innovative facade building, being Polux bv (Enkhuizen) and Rollecate bv (Staphorst). From the inside to the outside, the facade is built from a timber framed inner wall, fitted with aluminium windows and finished with a fibre glass reinforced composite shell.
