Barcelona Activa is the organization responsible for boosting economic policies and local development in Barcelona. They promote economic activity, encourage entrepreneurship and offer administrative support and guidance for new business ideas, they also assist businesses to adapt to market changes. The competition for the design and management of its headquarters’ restaurant was won by a cooking, economic & designers team, where LoCa studio led the design. This new restaurant is today a reference in gastronomy, cultural events and work meetings in Poble Nou, the new business district in Barcelona. The premise of the restaurant was empty for more than two years and the competition was held to change this issue. The aim of the project was to change the initially bland and grey space towards a warm and colorful space while maintaining a low investment. The second important aspect was to develop a system that guarantees the flexibility and adaptability of the space. Both for special events and for the daily changes that occur at this erratic location.

The new restaurant in Barcelona Activa makes use of the existing infrastructures, paying particular attention to the dining area where elements were placed with attention to the expected occupancy requirements generating a suitable environment for the changing activities.

Lights, furniture and window shades were the main elements used in the project. A network of col-orful cables cross the main room which is newly developed light system and the shades transform the room according to the number of customers.
