Through a slit that allows you to see the coastal plot, this house tries to focus its gaze towards the bay. Thus, it is oriented towards the north and the gaze runs through patios that show, in the abstraction of an austere geometry, its relationship with the street. The project tries to give shelter and silence in the desert that inhabits, filter the light from the zenith to blur the limits with the exterior and reveal the relationship with the sky. In the passage of time, in the definition of the shadow, the luminosity of Paracas is incorporated.
HOUSE IN PARACAS
To the south of the Bay of Paracas, there is still a neighborhood that allows itself to flow through its streets and maintain a community life. We can still find traces of the old houses that generate a border of domestic scale accompanied by an enveloping silence.
This house is installed in a second row of houses, from which it tries to focus the view to the bay through an urban gap, the house is facing north and orientates the view through its courtyards as a filter and a protection from the look of the front road.
From the circumstances of its location and from the disciplinary interpretation of the program and its elements is that the form emerges. The architecture of the house is articulated from two different buildings that generate two moments; one that articulates the city from an urban scale and that collects the private spaces such as bedrooms and service areas. This "building" is developed upon its courtyards according to the pedestrian scale, which allow to open all the windows to the north, directing the gaze towards the sea, with a formal and material austerity. It is a server building, which contains the most of the program, crowned on the third level with the family meeting area, the only space where the gaze opens frontally and directly to the outside.
On the other hand a building / shadow space is the one that confines the social activity of the house, a large independent coverage, united only by a staircase that allows us to connect with the rest of the program. This structure grants shelter and silence. From its rough materiality and its perforations in the cover that brings us the filtered light from the zenith that soften the transition from the sun to the shade.
The project takes care of the contact with the street, from the abstraction of the figure to its relationship with the interior of the house, that is achieved through an entrance patio where the element of the staircase is suspended from its weightlessness generating a threshold in relation to the street, a courtyard deconstructed from the light of Paracas.
