Punto M’s Full Renovation Restores Architectural Splendor to a Penthouse in Madrid

The project seamlessly merges modernity with classic touches, featuring moldings, indirect lighting, wood, and stone that add character and timeless elegance. The greatest challenge was achieving a fluid integration between the interior and exterior, enhancing the beauty and functionality of every space.

Punto M, a renowned design and interior architecture studio, has revitalized an impressive penthouse on Calle Núñez de Balboa, located in the heart of the exclusive Salamanca district in Madrid. Through a full renovation, the project aimed to create a smooth connection between interior and exterior spaces, beginning with the restoration of a previously removed terrace. This was followed by a unique and contemporary redesign of the interiors, blending a distinctive personality with elegant classic touches.

Illuminated moldings, meticulously highlighted on walls and ceilings, lend sophistication and elegance to the spaces while serving a functional purpose by concealing an integrated climate control system. Oak wood paneling not only adds modernity and distinction but also texture and warmth.

“From the beginning, our key guidelines were to maximize natural light, reduce visual clutter, and use materials that exude warmth and natural beauty, all paired with a light color palette,” explain José Manuel Fernández and Gerardo Malo, architects, interior designers, and founders of Punto M. “These ideas are reflected in the strategic use of large windows and flush doors, as well as a careful selection of noble materials like wood and natural stone, complemented by neutral-toned decor,” they add. “The project’s greatest revelation was discovering a hidden double height in the dining area, which allowed us to recover part of the building’s original architectural value and add an unexpected, enriching dimension to the space.”

The penthouse includes a kitchen-living room, dining area, three en-suite bedrooms, a terrace, an entryway, a hallway, and a guest bathroom.

A Restored Terrace Connected to Common Spaces

Punto M has brought back the spacious terrace that had previously been integrated into the home’s interior. Now transformed into a true haven for relaxation and gatherings, the terrace offers ample space for family moments and social events. The design highlights the building’s façade once again. Marble-topped tables harmonize with neutral-toned decor, featuring zigzag-patterned cushions by Lizzo. A two-seater iron and wood sofa, four wooden and fabric chairs from Point, and decorative plants complete this idyllic setting.

Through large, durable windows, the terrace flows directly into a living room that is also connected to the kitchen, resulting in an extension of the outdoor area. Majestic moldings bring refinement and character to the interior, starting in the living room and continuing consistently throughout the home. These moldings are accentuated by artificial lighting, complemented here by ceiling spotlights and an elegant hanging lamp by Lyfa. A concealed projector near the large window can emerge at any moment to transform the room into a seamless home theater.

In the living room, the neutral color palette is subtly contrasted by furniture and decorative elements, such as the comfortable armchair by Ethnicraft, cushions by Lizzo and Pepe Peñalver, various coffee tables by Point, a sophisticated leather bench by Domkapa, and the upcoming Potocco stools in the kitchen. Art, a distinctive hallmark of Punto M’s work, is present here through a piece by Jordi Alcaraz above the living room sofa and another by Joan Hernández Pijuan in the kitchen.

Modern Language with Captivating Classic Touches

This project by Punto M uniquely combines modernity with captivating classic elements, such as moldings designed from clean, contemporary volumes. Moldings on walls and ceilings, integrated indirect lighting, the warm presence of wood, and the elegance of stone contribute character and timelessness to the home.

The project’s greatest achievement lies in the harmonious integration of interior and exterior spaces, seamlessly connected through large windows and continuous flooring. This approach enhances the beauty of both environments, creating a fluid and natural transition.
