The project involves the complete refurbishment of an eighteenth-century building built on via Rivapiana in the municipality of Minusio. The specific request of the owners is to bring back the building to its old splendor. The building is strategically positioned in front of the lake and dominates the old port, and it belongs to the historic heart of Minusio. The facades have been restored by eliminating cracks and residues of recent interventions. The surface of the walls has been cleaned and restored with a mineral base suitable for receiving the color. Graphites and new colors have given back to the house a new dress that respects the past so that the existing architectural features result.
The roof has been rebuilt with a stone roof as it already existed in ancient times. The new stone roof is higher at the ridge but in proportion with the existing volume of the building. In the past, the attic space housed the atelier of the painter Ugo Zaccheo 1919, where the dormers guaranteed good lighting throughout the day and a large north-facing window provided optimal light for painting. The existing space on the ground floor used as a laundry and storage has remained without connection to central heating as it was originally.
On the first floor, the existing apartment has been entirely renovated and the interiors have maintained the characteristics of the eighteenth-century house by refreshing the wooden floors and plastering and repainting the walls. The existing bathroom has been refurbished and renovated, a new bathroom with wardrobe has been created for the master bedroom, and the kitchen has been completely redesigned. On the second floor there is the main apartment of the house where a similar renovation work was carried out on the floor below. On the attic floor there are new spaces used as a kitchen and living room as well as a new bathroom and bedroom with wardrobe.
The heating will be in coils in the floor. Natural lighting is given on the south front towards the lake by two windows built in the dormers of the roof, proportional to the size of the original windows of the same facade, while on the north front a large window has been built, as in the past integrated into the pitch of the roof that catches the light from the north.
