This house features horizontal continuous windows and a courtyard for privacy. This house is built in a city where many buildings are densely stand, which made it difficult to protect sunlight and privacy.

We first surveyed the neighboring buildings and studied the layout of openings that would allow sunlight to enter the house while maintaining privacy. As a result, we found the best solution was to place a series of horizontal windows in a high position and to build a tall wall on the north side to bring reflected sunlight into the room. The tall wall not only directs the sunlight, but also protects privacy.

In order to meet energy conservation standards, aluminum windows with low-e coated glass and high-performance insulation were used.

The ceiling is made of oak and coated with natural-derived oil. The oak wood on the ceiling is not only visually appealing, but also has a sound-absorbing effect, reducing the noisy echoes that are often associated with high ceilings.
