Usually in Catalonia, the plots in the old villages for detached housing are approximately 5 meters wide, adapted to the typical structural system: two parallel load-bearing walls that support regular beams to build a slab. Sometimes, as it happens in our case, the resultant plot is really outstretched making really difficult the access of light and ventilation in all the rooms of the house. The project pretends to solve this situation by the VERTICAL PATIO so that all the rooms are correctly illuminated and ventilated. The patio finally becomes the center of the house as it organizes and distributes the different areas of the house and also generates visual diagonal connection between the three floors. In the ground floor, the living room and the open kitchen surrounds the patio and extends to the outdoor garden. In the first floor the toilets are set along one of the party walls leaving the central area between the patio and the staircase as a common studio while bedrooms are set on both sides of the house. The second floor is a single space living room connected to the terrace.
