Gringley Hall is a classic English home that required a more modern addition to house a bespoke kitchen and dining area with access to the garden. The rear extension has been constructed using the same kind of large “off-white” bricks featured in the original home. This landmark project is situated on a prime corner of the Boundary Park Industrial Park development in Northriding, Johannesburg. The site location, coupled with the tenant’s large staff compliment, led to a somewhat unconventional office to warehouse ratio of 60:40 instead of the more typical 90:10 ratio. This is a six-story standalone building located in Taichung. The owner comes from one of the few modern families with 3 generations living under one roof. With the original layout, the spaces were closed off from each other, and the functionality of the space was poorly organized. We broke down the barriers created by the original layout, providing a space that allows the family to reconnect with ease. Immersion in the Mountains and Sea In order to create a casual image of the corporate brand, we brought the warm atmosphere of a vacation into the space, taking inspiration from both mountain and sea. In the lounge area at the entrance of the office, particular elements were utilized to convey a warm feeling and to symbolize the entrance to an urban jungle, such as curved booth seating, a special wooden grid pattern, and wooden floors. In Seoul, South Korea, ODA recently won the Creative Innovation Architecture Design Pilot Project competition. with a proposed mixed-use tower that seamlessly integrates greenery and public space into its design. This competition is the first time that the city of Seoul incentivized the private sector to incorporate meaningful public space in exchange for allowing participants to build more FAR and height. ODA built the Seoul proposal on the foundation that porosity leads to prosperity.
