Kwsa Kinetic Wall

Kwsa is a 209-square-meter kinetic wall at Aramco’s VVIP Center in Riyadh, consisting of six 6x7 meter sections. The system integrates 20,000 stepper motors, each controlled by a cross-shaped PCB embedded in the chassis. Sharon Ritossa Movement is achieved through a high-helix lead screw and a lever system, optimizing mechanical efficiency while reducing component count. Self-lubricating technopolymer parts ensure silent operation and eliminate lubrication requirements. The system is designed for front-access assembly and maintenance. Sharon Ritossa Precision across the installation is maintained within a few tenths of a millimeter. This was achieved through advanced simulations, an automated production pipeline, and speci... COACH

WHAT IS IT? For the temporary location of the Centre for Overweight Adolescent and Children’s Healthcare (COACH) of the Maastricht University Medical Center+, The Netherlands, experience design agency Tinker imagineers created a reusable pop-up concept: a playful and interactive world that nudges children and their parents in the direction of a healthy diet and regular exercise. A motivating and stimulating environment that seems miles away from the world of doctors and hospitals, but does not look too ‘sporty’ or competitive either. But just sitting down and waiting for your turn is a thing of the past!   CHALLENGE FACED The programme of COACH is all about coaching children and young adults who are overweight t... Altro

The Dancing Pavilion

The Dancing Pavilion is temporary Interactive Architecture created for the Olympic Park 2016. Scattered sensors inside of the dance oor capture the beat of the music and the movement of people dancing, which activates the motors of the mirrors on the façade of the building. The result is a kinetic architecture that hypnotizes people, and transforms the space into the most exciting dance club of the 2016 Olympics. The pavilion was designed for a Brazilian beer brand to host music, parties, DJ’s and shows. Located in the Barra Olympic Park, the primary location for the stadiums in the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the building has an interactive architectural skin. The outer face of the metallic skin is composed of various colors that suggest diver... Altro

Diamond Tree

Designed and made by 3ndy Studio, Vigonovo (Venice), Diamond Tree was born from an architectural concept employing innovative materials, especially Lapitec®, and is centred around a ground-breaking vision of living space.  Based on a conceptual parallelepiped, the volume of the building is formed of two irregular prisms using divisions, rotations, subtractions and additions: architectural solutions aimed at creating a fluid space without any corridors joining the zones. Within this logic, sleeping and living areas converge in a space that is "hybrid", generating a stereoscopic vision of the internal and external environments, bathed in the light that enters from the large skylights that give unexpected perspectives of the sky. In this... Altro

FABRICATING PERFORMANCE

UCL’s Interactive Architecture Lab has developed a new type of choreography – one that explores the potential for dialogue between humans and robots – and the way we might design cooperatively in the future. Fabricating Performance is the brainchild of students Syuko Kato and Vincent Huyghe and brings together their respective specialisms of dance and robotic systems, under the supervision of the Lab’s director, Ruairi Glynn. Inspired by existing notational languages in dance, Fabricating Performance evolves what have traditionally been graphic, symbolic systems and proposes a new way of interpreting and representing movement, through the generation of architectural-‐scale sculptures. To achieve this, Huyghe and Kato have designed... Altro

SOCIAL NETWORK

SOCIAL NETWORK is the winning proposal of DM-KM278 2014, an international competition organized by MAPPELAB magazine in collaboration with MAXXI, National Museum of the 21st Century Arts in Rome. The aim of the design was to realize a one-night installation of 5000m2 of space on the beach of Senigallia, Italy, right in front of a historic shrine. The attempt of the installation event was to let people reflect on the beach both as a limit of the contemporary urban environment and an area of contact between local identity and international creativity. The proposal is a social and interactive architecture composed with rows of fishing nets, which reminisces the way fishermen dried their nets in the past. This composition organized the progr... The PlayRoom

The PlayRoom is a functional space designed by WeNew Innovation where children interact playing while receiving wellness therapies. To envision this project the designers have studied children behavior and translate the naturalness of the child into the space interaction: the toys are made in the own interactive architecture. The project concept was born from the trend of time valorization combined with wellcare, so while kids play, treatments - such as color therapy, music therapy, aromatherapy and reflexology - are happening in a natural and organic way. "I believe that children learn fast and, more and more, they learn in different ways. They discover things by playing and learn by discovering" says Michelle Souza, UX Designer and co-fou... Altro

The Entangled Pavilion

The Entangled Pavilion is one in a series of my design studies that explore new ways in which architecture can be reinvented in order to become more responsive to the people who use it. This is a design study for a new kind of interactive architecture. The structure consists of a large steel support frame (that can be covered with a glass canopy) and four movable steel shade roof segments. Each of the segments are connected to the support frame at a center pivot mast. Two electric powered motorized wheels are attached to the base of each of the shade roof segments. The wheels run in tracks that are mounted around the perimeter of the large support frame. The motorized wheels and perimeter tracks allow each of the four shade roof segments... Altro

The Radius Transformation Pavilion

The Radius Transformation Pavilion is an experimental, interactive, public architecture, which explores new ways in which to manipulate the shape of a large structure, in order to accommodate the changing needs and/or desires of those who encounter it. The light weight steel structure is formed from six wedge shaped curved segments that can be rotated in any direction around a center support column. Each of theses segments vary in size, and each have rubber wheels mounted under the portion of the segment that is on the opposite side of the center support column. The rubber wheels allow visitors to easily push each of the segments around the center support column. As the different segments are rotated around the column, many different... Altro

Neural Sky

The Neural Sky Exhibit is a large interactive exhibit that was designed and built to be exhibited at the Beyond Wonderland Concert and at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The primary goals were to develop and understand strategies that can be applied to interactive architecture. Heavy emphasis was placed on creating a full-scale environment that a person could walk through, interact with, and experience spatially. The large scale environment was developed with over 10,000 computer-controlled LED lights that moved throughout the metal structure like a neural network. From an interactive standpoint, the idea is that the lights connect people within the space by literally connecting their locations with a path of light. From a con... Altro

The Interactive Transformable Plaza

The Interactive Transformable Plaza is a conceptual design proposal for a public gathering place that can be manipulated by the visitors who encounter it. If one were to first see the plaza in its neutral stage, it would appear to simply be a large flat grey colored wooden platform, with nine yellow stanchions (topped with boat winches) mounted at both ends. If someone decided to crank any of the boat winches, a section of the platform in line with that boat winch would begin to fold up out of the platform. Each of the boat winches (which are mounted at either end of the platform) can be used to lift one of the eighteen sections of the platform up and out of the flat plane into an A shaped section, which can be varied in width and height... Cube

Cube represents the next frontier in multifamily high-rise housing in urban areas. A dramatic and elemental steel infrastructure creates the possibility for ultimate volumetric flexibility where the homeowner can customize spatial prerogatives. Rising 22 stories over the design district in Miami, Florida—Cube promotes its occupants to design their own domain with the possibility of connecting multiple cube modules vertically, horizontally, and diagonally in addition to creating double height volumes, garden voids and cantilevered living environments. Generated by desire and need rather than architectural assumption, the volumetric play of the building creates intriguing arrangements of solid and void— a true interactive architecture.... Altro
