Free Air is a public gathering machine designed by architect Daryan Knoblauch. The pavilion is devoted to the element that connects cosmic dust with the lungs that we carry within our body: Air. The Oblique Pavilion is an ephemeral space, configured in a 12x9 area, located between three access streets at an event fair. The proposal arises from this challenge: to design a pavilion without pre-established facades, that could dialog with all its views, as well as allow fluidity on all sides. Innovative sustainability solutions are often born from the most evident ideas. It was also the case with Sziget Festival’s Colosseum – a party stage reminiscent of ancient amphitheaters – which for the first time was built in 2012 – and made of pallets. Hello Wood, an internationally renowned architectural firm, was inspired by the pallets lying around the Sziget Festival to create the Colosseum using this unusual material. This way the parts didn’t need to be thrown away or stored after disassembly but could be reused functionally. The objective of the project was to design a temporary security access gatehouse for the University of Mpumalanga for the period that the new main entrance is being constructed. We are currently experiencing a global crisis that affects almost all areas of public life and has pushed many health systems worldwide to their limit. In Berlin, the decision was made to build a corona treatment centre on the Berlin Trade Fair (Messe Berlin) in order to reduce bottlenecks in the provision of clinical care. In a matter of weeks, a reserve hospital with almost 500 beds was built in one of the exhibition halls, which creates additional capacity should the number of infections increase again.  The layout of the treatment centre is based on modular clusters with 16-24 beds and a central service zone.
