USAY Youth Centre

Located in Calgary’s Forest Lawn neighbourhood, the traditional territory of the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Iyarhe Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina Nations as well as the Metis Nation of Region 3, the USAY Youth Centre was co-designed and co-authored between Lemay and the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY).  Designed as a much-needed place of belonging and personal development for the thousands of Indigenous youth USAY supports between the ages of 12 and 29, this 5,000 square foot building with an adjoining 6,400 square foot outdoor lot acts as a hub of accessibility, safety, cultural relevance, education, and skill-building. Mackin Architects designs a disaster-resilient youth centre in Haisla

This project won the 2021 Architectural Foundation of BC Award of Excellence; the 2021 Canada Green Building Award; and the 2022 “Against the Grain Award” Wood Design and Building Award. Cedars Youth and Community Centre

Working in partnership, Watford Football Club’s Community Sports and Education Trust, Harrow Council and LOM secured government funding and planning permission for the £4.2m community and youth centre in 2008. The centre provides a sports hall, gym, café, social space, all-weather pitch and play area. Inspired by its context within a public park, it features green roofs, timber louvres and stone gabion walls. The energy-efficient design features a solar wall and rainwater harvesting system.
