Located on a quiet street in Santa Monica, Sunset Park was to be built on the existing footprint of an abandoned late 1960’s tract home.
The goal was to create a project that was modest on the exterior but spacious and minimal on the interior. Interior walls were removed in order open up large gathering spaces. The living spaces are all connected by a large vaulted ceiling with large skylights that embrace natural light. A small addition was added in the back of the house to accommodate a new master bedroom which is identified by vertical grain cedar siding, framing the backyard deck. The existing garage was relocated to be accessed from the alley in order to free up space along the side yard for a family vegetable garden.
