An evocative new design for the World Ocean Headquarters by Wingårdh Architektkontor has been revealed. Clad in blue faceted glass, the facade is a direct reference to the sea.
The headquarter is to be located just outside Oslo and will serve as a headquarters for offices, research, education and for the meeting of different groups. With a proposed height of about sixty-stories, it will have a large conference centre with meeting rooms for about 900 people, as well as space for exhibitions, a hotel, café and a rooftop restaurant with views over Oslo and the Oslofjord.
The look of the faceted blue glass is central to scheme. “The way the sky is reflected in the glass waves of the façade and the changing appearance of its stepped volume from different viewpoints will give completely different experiences of the building,” says Fredrik Lyth, architect at Wingårdh.
Sustainability also plays a key role with the architects noting that the goal for the building is to generate at least as much energy as it uses.
