Located in the Swiss Alps above Monthey, Switzerland, the Whitepod eco-chalet is a concept from Montalba Architects, an award-winning architecture firm based in both California and Switzerland.

Designed with group and family travel in mind, the scheme comprises a total of 21 eco-chalets that are equipped with modern conveniences and feature a minimalist, sustainable design that allows the surrounding alpine landscape to take centre stage.

Each eco-chalet structure is made entirely from Swiss materials and products. This includes larch wood-paneled cladding and interior millwork undertaken by a local fabricator. While modern and minimalist, the finishing nevertheless evokes feelings of a traditional Swiss chalet.

Spatially, the units are divided into ‘day’ and ‘night’ areas. The night side accommodates three bedrooms while the day side includes the entrance, dining room and living room.

Heritage and craftsmanship are at the heart of design, so we give considerable attention to making sure local, timeless materials are incorporated into each project to create a continuation of a user’s experience with both the space and the region as a whole,’ says Founding Principal David Montalba.

Nine of a total 21 chalets are anticipated to be completed by December 2020.
