Residential Building by Lake Lucerne

The location is fascinating due to its location by the lake and the view of the foothills of the Alps. The public road on the southern edge of the property connects the elevated estate with its gently inclining slope towards the lake to the east. It was a special challenge to connect this topographical orientation towards the easy with the alignment towards the sun on the street side without limiting the quality of privacy. The solution is an angular facility providing optimal alignment as well as a large private exterior space. The floor for the rooms is terraced to follow the topography of the land and is orientated along a large terrace facing the garden and the landscape room. Colour tones of dark red wood, varnished areas, black polished granite, soft reflecting black water surfaces and paper coloured walls create a special interior atmosphere that is reminiscent of a Chinese interior – as a reference to the owner.

Outside, clay coloured concrete, frameless glass, sliding doors and wooden grids define the atmosphere. The building connects the given quality of the landscape with the concept of flowing spaces and distinct interior and exterior references. The element of water both inside the building and on the terraces is also a reference to the lake. Finally, a garden path through the entire property allows the qualities of the location to be fully experienced. The load bearing structure consists of a reinforced concrete construction that was moulded locally and has clay-coloured ornamental concrete surface. The almost strut-free main living area is the result of a bridge-like suspension construction. Two prestressed double supports are placed onto two pylons and the accessing core, while the ceiling above the ground floor is suspended onto these double supports using diagonal ties.
