The concept behind the Insulator Lamp Project is a result of a closer look at what played as important a role during the industrial revolution as the invention of electricity, telegraph and the telephone.
In the insulators, besides their functionality,I saw poetry in all the forms and colours of their manufacture and found them beautiful in the expression of their time in history. With this in mind,I decided to give them another chance to shine under the spotlight in our modern era,by making them protagonist in my Insulator Lamp Project. The lamp is made mainly of a wooden base and two acrylic milled parallelepipeds. The color of the wooden base resemble the color of the old wooden weathered poles where the insulators used to be fixed. The main contemporary “key”,both in the material and in the shape, is represented by the two acrylic volumes where the milling work recall the location of two hypothetical wires, whilst the transparency represents the “lightness effect” .
