Capoferri Serramenti s.p.a. was founded in 1894 in Adrara San Martino, Italy, as an artisan carpentry specializing in wooden window frames. Over more than 130 years of activity, the company has evolved into an international producer of tailor-made window frames for some of the world’s most renowned architects, including Renzo Piano, Michele de Lucchi, David Chipperfield, Mario Cucinella, and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. Today, it is managed by Sergio Capoferri and his sons, Paolo, Francesco, and Luca. Capoferri’s handcrafted tradition has merged with a cutting-edge technical approach, making its products suitable for both large and small projects.

A specialized Capoferri team, consisting of design managers and technical-commercial staff, provides technical and architectural support from the earliest stages of each project, offering solutions aligned with specific design objectives and client expectations. The technical department then engineers the products, determines how they will be applied on site, and verifies static and structural requirements. For each contract, a dedicated project manager coordinates and monitors all processes—from design to engineering, production, and installation.

The research and development team is constantly working with avant-garde materials and innovative systems to improve window performance, providing visual mock-ups and prototypes for testing in an in-house laboratory. This system enables the official certification of Capoferri windows in collaboration with Italy’s National ITC Institute. Woodworking is carried out using state-of-the-art machinery, while manual touch-ups lend each window a handmade “Made in Italy” quality. Metal profiles, parts, and components—along with hardware and specialized automations—are produced in the company’s advanced metal workshop. Every tailor-made project is pre-assembled and tested in the laboratory to streamline installation, and a specialized team travels globally to install Capoferri windows on site.

Sustainability is integral to Capoferri’s operations. The metal production plant is equipped with a 380 KW photovoltaic system, and the wood workshop relies on a biomass-fueled plant powered by wooden waste. Bronze, steel, and stainless steel are all 100 percent recyclable, and 80 percent of the wood used in Capoferri products comes from FSC or PEFC-certified forests. The production process is optimized to reduce material waste, particularly through the use of laser-cutting technology.

Capoferri's Solutions

Capoferri does not use standard profiles commonly available on the market. Instead, the company’s technical department designs custom profiles that are then manufactured in its mechanical workshop and rigorously tested in in-house laboratories. This approach makes it possible to create unique solutions that seamlessly blend aesthetic, dimensional, and performance requirements for each project.

Many of the hardware components are also designed and built in-house, ensuring precision and innovation. Metal window systems can be manual or motorized, with automation systems entirely developed and produced within the company using cutting-edge materials and components.

Capoferri manufactures a broad range of operating systems, including casement, tilt-and-turn, lift-and-slide, horizontal and vertical pivot, guillotine, knee-joint, tilting, floor-recessed, projecting, foldable sliding, and vertical pivot folding windows. These can be manually operated or motorized, always tailored to the specific design and architectural intent of each project.

Depending on size, style, and glass composition, Capoferri offers window frames in both wood and metal with custom section thicknesses. Large-scale openings are often motorized for safe and effortless operation. Every automation system and hardware component is designed and produced in-house using state-of-the-art materials and technologies.

FerroFinestra Capoferri is a thermally broken window system for small and large facades. The product is designed in the tradition of steel windows crafted by artisans during the nineteenth through the middle of the twentieth century. Built from 5 millimeter solid metal sheet rather than from extruded or folded profiles, the product allows for seamlessly welded joints and a profile depth which can be adjusted to the thickness of the insulated glass unit. The result is a truly minimalist window which, unlike proprietary systems, can be modified and adapted to meet each project's needs.

Plathéa is a new line of windows composed of very thin profiles, capable of thermal insulation, resistance to wind loads and insulation from water infiltration, and meeting the highest standards of the trade. The combined width of the Plathéa profile can be reduced to a mere 35 millimeters, merging design requirements, aesthetics and technical performance into a solution without compromise that provides absolute quality. The system comes in stainless steel, true bronze or painted steel and can accept both double-glazed and triple glazed glass units.
