Title: Non-electrical septic system for domestic waste water treatment

• Summary: BIOROCK is a manufacturer of small scale sewage water treatment units. BIOROCK has developed a compact septic system for the biological purification of domestic waste water from public or commercial facilities, if connection to major sewage systems is not available or too expensive. The smaller systems (< 300 P.E.) don't need electricity. The larger systems (> 250 P.E.) do need electricity. The company is offering a commercial agreement with technical assistance to companies with experience in sewage or water treatment systems.

• Description: The compact sewage treatment units are developed for biological purification of (domestic) waste water from households, farms, holiday homes, offices, leisure centers or other public or commercial facilities in the absence of municipal sewage systems, or too high connection cost.

The treatment philosophy embraces the principles of a combined pre-separation and an aerobic biological filtration. As a result, the treated effluents can either be discharged to surface water (natural outfalls, rivers, lakes), infiltrated or reused for irrigation or agricultural needs. The treated effluents meet the highest regulations and norms of discharge effluent quality and water reuse. The purification principle is unique in comparison to all traditional techniques. It needs no electricity and the carrier material for the bacteria (a processed natural fiber material) enables the units to perform under highly variable influent loading (weekend houses, holiday cottages, camping sites, etc.)

At first a primary tank separates solids, oil and greases, furthermore the units are designed to biologically purify pre-effluent (primary treatment). In a second stage, gravity makes the pre-settled sewage flow into the Bioreactor. The units operate and regulate themselves. Maintenance is hardly necessary, minimizing the operating cost, while maintaining high performance.

The larger systems (BIOROCK-M series) combines this technology with the world-wide applied Rotating Biological Contractors (RBC) technology. This innovative combination makes it possible to produce small plug-and-play wastewater treatment units is a 40’ container. The units can serve flows from large offices, restaurants, hotels even up to small towns. The unit has a capacity ranging from 250-600 Person Equivalent (PE). To increase capacity, several units can be combined.

Innovative Aspects: - No use of electricity (relies on gravity and natural air flow) - Ability to operate maintenance free up to 6 months (ideal during holidays) - Low maintenance & operational costs - Several international certifications - High degree of purification (99%)
