77 South Audley Street lies at the heart of the Mayfair conservation area, on a prominent corner site. The residential scheme replaces a 1970′s concrete building of little architectural merit, providing a significant opportunity to enhance the quality of the streetscape. The new façade reflects the proportions, logic and materiality of Georgian buildings in the area. The building is designed with hand-set Portland stone and bronze fins, complementing the building in its context. The concept has developed to give the impression of the building being crafted and tailored from a single piece of stone, enhancing the sense of high quality finish. The design is informed by an in-depth solar analysis, allowing the facade to respond passively to the environment. Deep window reveals are used as a means to enhance energy efficiency, as well as solar panels at the upper levels.
