The project began with a client’s request to create a ”live-style showroom” that combines the functions of an offi ce and a showroom. Rather than serving merely as a conventional workspace, the client wanted to reconstruct it as a place where visitors can experience the company’s furniture and technologies fi rsthand — and naturally see how these elements are realistically integrated into the space.
The concept, "THE SHOW (Mitetteya)", is inspired by a warm and inviting Japanese expression in Osaka often used to encourage people to stop by and have a look.It conveys casual hospitality and openness, inviting visitors to explore the space freely.
We focused on its unique sense of distance found only in Osaka; the design is based on the thought that the space consists not only of people but also furniture. It was conceived as a central design axis, shaping visible scenes of communication beginning with the furniture.
On the other hand, while the continuous row of small windows was a positive feature, the low exposed-beam ceilings and rough rock-textured walls made the space feel constrained. To address these challenges, we aimed to balance visual openness with exhibition impact, making the most of the limited ceiling height. All ceilings were removed to expose the skeleton, and the entrance hall was expanded into an arc, creating a natural fl ow that guides visitors inward while introducing a “framing views through 〇〇” mechanism to spark curiosity and engagement.
In the working area, thin plates are strategically placed across the exposed skeleton ceiling in select locations to create subtle accents that evoke a sense of calm. This design intentionally guides a gradual shift in perception as one moves from one zone to another, while also defi ning a distinct “sense of place” within the open environment.
