Akbal

The genesis of Akbal is a happy consequence of the pandemic that swept the world. On a 10,000m2 property, a building was initially planned to accommodate the daily work of a team of software developers for various companies worldwide. Originally, a space of 2000m2 was allocated for this purpose, including a program of 200 workstations, services, and recreational areas. The project was well-defined, calculated, and, not only that, but progress had also been made in its construction, with all the planned elements of metal structure and roofing being manufactured in the workshop. However, the global situation forced everyone to change the way they work and understand their workspaces, leading to a transformation in the project.

The functionality, distribution, and, of course, the use of the space were reconsidered. Nevertheless, everything had to be done using the same acquired and transformed construction elements. Columns, beams, panels, and roofs were redesigned in their composition, giving birth to AKBAL: a place to escape the city, rest, relax, and be in contact with nature just minutes away from the urban hustle.

Akbal is a planned ensemble of 10 resting cabins, of which 6 have already been built. Each cabin features a simple program including a resting area, a living room, a kitchen, and services, as well as a small terrace with a heated outdoor jacuzzi incorporated into each one.

By using beams and columns manufactured with a length of 6 meters, they are divided into sections that allow them to be fragmented on one side to create a lateral vertical column. This column helps support a secondary structure that forms a mezzanine-like platform housing the bedroom and creating a cantilevered balcony overlooking one of the facades. Below this elevated space, you'll find the kitchenette and bathroom services, while the remaining small double-height space houses the living room, which opens up and expands spatially towards the exterior, projecting onto the terrace. All of this is covered by a roofing structure that envelops it in a gable form, synthesizing the structure and optimizing its use. The construction features a metal structure, composite metal panel roofs, aluminum frames, and interior panel cladding made of wood, which polarizes the interior from the exterior, protecting against the elements while providing warmth to the space.

The ensemble is complemented by service buildings or additional amenities that are currently under construction in subsequent stages. These include an event hall, a restaurant, as well as massage and sauna areas. The entire ensemble is surrounded by an open space that is gradually becoming densely populated with endemic vegetation, slowly gaining ground and transforming the surroundings into a special and protected natural landscape as it develops.
