Initial plans for a suburban-style office campus to be built on this former naval transfer station on the Alameda Channel waterfront failed. The developer, Catellus, then asked us to help redesign the master plan and manage an ambitious public outreach process. Building on feedback gathered from residents at open houses and public workshops, we refocused the plan on a mix of housing, local retail and office uses encouraging a mix of uses on individual sites and within buildings. Retail uses line the main street, with parking behind, as it leads to a new ferry terminal and grand public open space along the water?s edge.
