The hotel is located on the Prinsengracht in the building of the former Public Library of Amsterdam. International interior and product designer Marcel Wanders made the designs for the 6000m2 BN Digital Wallcoverings of the five-star hotel. He therefore took a modern look at the Dutch history and local culture. Thus the golden age, delft blue, navigation and adventure and the cities vibrant knowledge economy allinform the look and feel of the hotel. As a space that will accommodate visitors to the city, the hotel is intended to be a vessel that instantly connects people to place, it is designed to offer a local experience for international people, and also be a key venue for those who live in the city and want to showcase their heritage and hospitality.
On the back wall of each room sits a Digital Printing known as a Connected Polarity. A connected polarity takes two unsuspecting items in this case a fish head and an object tail and stitches them together to create a new, surprising whole. At the same picture you see the sign of Amsterdam xxx. The toilets have Wallcoverings with an SR Coating, that is anti-bacterial and easy to clean. It was the responsibility of BN that all lines, patters and heights would run perfect. Studio Marcel Wanders and the BN Studio have worked closely on this project that was completed in 2012.
