Architect Larissa Albuquerque signs apartment renovation to welcome elderly couple
This 90m² apartment located in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, was developed to accommodate an elderly couple who decided to move to a smaller property, adapting to the new phase of their lives. The motivation for the move was the daughters leaving home, which left the old apartment even bigger just for the couple.
Accustomed to larger spaces, the couple faced the first challenge, accepting a property that did not have a gourmet area, as they were used to having barbecues and get-togethers. They then decided to look for architect Larissa Albuquerque to execute a project that would make them more comfortable at the smaller address.
One of the residents' demands was that accessibility be an important aspect of the project, aiming to guarantee adequate circulation in the future, if it was necessary to use a wheelchair within the apartment. And it was from this point that Larissa planned every detail of the renovation, solving obstacles and offering mobility.
The renovation focused on integrating the kitchen, TV room and dining room, in addition to expanding all doors and main circulation areas, providing more free spaces for passage through social spaces and sectoring others. The apartment had a suite and a bedroom and the architect transformed the second into another suite. The bathroom also had a sliding door to make it easier for someone else to approach in the event of an accident.
For the coverings, the architect opted for Tribeca Gray satin neutral porcelain flooring in the social area, which is more resistant to slipping. And natural materials, such as Pasinato brick, which was the central highlight of the room. In the bathrooms, neutral and monochromatic coverings were used, bringing more sophistication to the project.
The decoration gained a contemporary feel, always prioritizing functionality and ergonomics. The color palette focused on more neutral and cozy tones, such as woody and green, which refer to nature and leave the project with a feeling of tranquility and lightness. Almost all the furniture was purchased exclusively for this apartment, only the dining table came from the old property.
For the lighting project, he created several scenes that allow residents to adapt different types of lighting according to their activities. He worked with indirect lighting in several strategic points of the apartment, transforming it into a more pleasant environment.
