A space with “your face”, equipped with facilities and close to cool places to go out were the requests of a 26-year-old young man for his first apartment, measuring 56 m², in Vila Madalena, capital of São Paulo, with a project signed in partnership between architect Flávia Campos and interior designer Sandra Paes from Estúdio Integra. “Living practically alone in her parents’ house who split between Brazil and abroad, the resident, who has a lot of financial autonomy, decided to have her own home”, say the professionals. On a neutral base, formed by black, white, gray and woody MDF with a Pau Ferro finish, the occasional use of vibrant colors responds to joy and youthfulness, with an emphasis on blue and earthy palettes.
For someone who was used to living in a huge residence, fluidity was the starting point in the development of the project, with a view to comfortable circulation. The biggest challenge was to provide the necessary space so that the client did not feel suffocated, given the compact size. Thus, an intelligent white joinery was developed to house the entire bathroom area, with a mimicked door, and the cabinets that serve as pantry, crockery and wine cellar. “Visually, everything looks like a panel, but each part of the seams hides a door. Only the wine cellar was on display, to give it a bit of fun”, says the professional. With four seats, the dining table was strategically fitted into the white volume. This entire combination of resolutions guaranteed visual unblocking between the living room and kitchen, in addition to optimizing spaces.
Receiving friends was also a priority for the hostess, so as many seats as possible were included in the setting, including sofas, side chairs and stools. The latter are accommodated under the sideboard that makes up the television wing, extending to the balcony integrated into the living room. Below it, the rack organizes electronic devices. Finally, overhead shelves, with lighting at the bottom, circulate throughout almost all environments, accommodating books, ornaments and plants.
With an excess of clothing, the resident needed a very large wardrobe and, to achieve this, it was necessary to unite the two existing rooms, camouflaging the window of one of them just behind the furniture, made in the shape of a “U”. In order to avoid darkening the bedroom, the part of the wardrobe opposite the remaining window received fully mirrored doors. “It’s a solution to reflect the natural light coming from the window, bringing more comfort”, he explains. The elimination of the intimate corridor allowed the enlargement of the bathroom and the consequent creation of an “L” shaped bench.
