Architecture Studio

factory becomes studio

Our intervention was aimed towards the recovering of an ex-woodworking factory and transforming it into an architectural studio. The characteristics of the building have a reference to a typical one-story craft working factory from the early 1900s using a typical hip-roof and depressed arch windows, all in symmetrical composition on two opposite fronts. In the original space a vertical internal partition, with crosswise disposition, was created for supporting the roof structure, determining the symmetrical functional organization of the space. All that determined the precise planning strategy: The structural reorganization was subordinated to functional reorganization by introducing a primary structural element, a loft. The addition of the new space gave the possibility of redefining the supporting elements, considered to be the composite of inspiration for the redesign, capable of supporting the roof thus creating a radical change of structural conformation within the new space. The interior spaces, designed according to the operating and direct needs of the studio, interact with one another as in the logic of open-spaces with a continuous transformation obtained from light intensities and more or less defined spaces with mobile devices disguised in stone elements. The materials repertoire is obtained from the experience developed from operating on the characteristics of minimal design taken from using basic materials.
