ARTHILL - School of Architecture

Master Degree Project - UACEG, Sofia

StDOBREV as Architects

The common link between Arthill and Ant-hill is a complicated inner structure which is a reflection of the relations within the structure on different levels – the first one is the relation within a group of individuals and the second one – between different groups. If the structure is not efficient enough, it will evolve. The difference is in the outer structure. Ant-hill has a closed outer structure which is a defensive mechanism of the colony. Arthill should have an open outer structure because this way not only the product but also the creative process will be demonstrated to the audience. The passage directs the audience into the heart of the school and helps the casual pedestrian appreciate the process of studying. Both structures consist of galleries and passage-ways and share the same principle in function – a primary function in a part of the structure resonates in a subordinate in another. The simplicity of the main structural material in Ant-hill – soil, is represented by white stucco wall cladding in Arthill.
