Ballast Point Brewing Company is one the largest and fastest growing breweries in California. The brewery recently opened the doors to an impressive 11,427-square-foot tasting room and kitchen in Long Beach, California. Designed by Smith Consulting Architects, the new tasting room has panoramic views of Alamitos Bay, three separate bars, and a 15-barrel brewhouse.

The goal behind the design was to create a nautical theme to coincide with Ballast Point’s corporate branding. The layout would also have to capitalize on the beautiful views of the surrounding marina, so glass became a substantial component of the building’s architecture. Various types of glazing systems were required, and CRL-U.S. Aluminum was selected to supply them because of its comprehensive portfolio, short lead times, and single-source accountability.
The tasting room’s entrances feature CRL’s DRS Door Rail System and Blumcraft Panic Handles. The DRS System provides a streamlined profile and uses the company’s patented Wedge-Lock™ technology, which secures glass panes by applying pressure evenly on both sides. This produces steadfast holding power and expedites installation. Blumcraft Panic Handles’ slim and elegant tubular shape provides clean visuals that complement the sleek design of DRS Door Rails.
Select interior areas use the GRS TAPER-LOC® Glass Railing System–the only ICC-ES approved railing system in the market. A key benefit is the patented TAPER-LOC® dry glaze installation method that can reduce installation time by more than 50%.

The exterior of the building has two stairways that lead to the second level deck. The stairways utilize CRL’s SRS Standoff Glass Railing System. Using minimal hardware, the SRS System lends a contemporary accent to the classic nautical theme of the tasting room. The first level of the building envelope is outfitted with the Series 451-S Center Glaze Storefront System, which offers floor-to-ceiling views of the adjacent bay.

To create a comfortable environment for guests, outside seating areas are lined with AWS Windscreens. The screens incorporate large glass panes with subtle aluminum framing to preserve views while acting as a barrier against air currents. The bar that services the outdoor area features the Monterey™ Bi-Folding Window System. Panels conveniently stack to the side, creating a large opening that lets fresh air in and gives patio customers bar access.

The latest Ballast Point Tasting Room & Kitchen aimed to create a vibrant environment with inspiring views. Installed by San Diego-based Complete Glass Service, CRL-U.S. Aluminum’s single-source glazing solutions helped realize the aesthetic intent by placing the surrounding scenery at the forefront using minimal hardware.
