Founded in 2022 by Elliott Housiaux and Paul-Emile De Smedt, Erased Studio provides concept-led creative services rooted in architectural thinking. A rigorous, highly aesthetic approach permeates each of their projects, where they uncover unexpected resonances across space, light, tone, and texture to forge new and interesting narratives.

Erased Studio recently had the pleasure of overseeing the interior design and creative direction for BATCH, a new café, restaurant, and bar nestled on the corner of the vibrant Chaussée de Waterloo and rue Renier Chalon in Ixelles. Housed in a former bakery with multiple levels and atmospheres, BATCH called on Erased Studio to redefine the layout of the space, ensuring that each room gracefully transitions from a bright, open café by day to a warm, intimate restaurant by night. The sheer diversity of rooms–bar, sidewalk terrace, ground floor, mezzanine, counter, and private garden–allowed Erased to realise different configurations to varying degrees of privacy.

Taking cues from the understated elegance of traditional Belgian brasseries, the flow of energy between rooms and functionality were of principal importance. Like being in an old brasserie, one has the feeling of pleasant surprise to discover another room full of warmth and lively conversation just around the corner. In the same vein, Erased Studio chose to work with simple, high-performance materials like lacquered wood, stainless steel, patinated aluminium, and glass bricks. Clean lines and quadratic patterns thoughtfully echo throughout the space, from the wall dividers to the acoustic ceiling, inviting visitors to connect in a comfortable, cultivated setting.

The studio’s vision for the space extends well beyond the interior design. They produced custom furniture and worked closely with graphic designer Lisbeth Antoine to establish a cohesive visual identity that reflects the physical character of the building. The end result is both humble and seductive, merging the qualitative traditions of the past with the flair of the contemporary.
