Black Star is an iconic Russian brand of R&B culture, which comprises several areas of activity. One of its projects is a fitness club - a place where people connected by love to R&B music and style meet and share their pastime.
The leader of Black Star engaged VOX Architects to design a club in which the brand's bright identity - energy, drive, party - will be blended with comfort and functionality for its visitors.
Organization of space
The spacious territory accommodates a gym with an area over 1000 m2. Mixed martial arts fans will find an allocated area with an octagon, punchbags and a tatami. There are also functional areas for group programs, yoga and dance programs, as well as for crossfit and cycling.
The focus of the space is a DJ stand. Regular parties for the in-crowd are a significant part of the club life. Visual illusions, fancy geometry of space and accent details stimulate the imagination and allow guests to feel the moment and take great photos.
At the entrance the guests meet the image of a golden universal gym machine on a pedestal - precious metal and sports style are essential attributes of R&B life style.
The welcoming atmosphere of the club affects visitors starting with cozy, functional locker rooms. The accent here is benches shaped as concrete blocks, they are made of soft wear–resistant polyurethane foam. A nifty solution in the restrooms are mirrors with ring light, they are great to quickly fix your makeup or take a selfie with a perfect lighting.
Design idea
The main idea of the project was to create a conceptual fitness space for a community of those who share R&B philosophy. The navigation between zones is highlighted with colour accents, mixed with mirrored surfaces and glass, it creates a kind of nightclub atmosphere. The calligraphy graffiti reflects the customer's fascination with contemporary art.
The architects created a light, voluminous space, defying both the low ceiling height and the fact that they could not seriously change the original geometry of the place. The lighting is designed to inject the needed vigor or concentration, the diffused light does not interfere with trainings.
The club has become a genuine power place for Black Star Fitness members.
