The concept of the project is to create clear and functional architectural steps between the urban everyday, the preparing for the trip, and finally the arctic nature itself.

Visitors 1. arrive with cars and buses to the new building, 2. change their normal clothes to scooter dresses, 3. continue to the existing old buildings’ area ( preserved in this plan to maintain the local history ) where the dog sledges are parked and where the dog handlers and dogs live and work, 4. and finally start the dog sledge journey from there.

After wards the experience ends with bathing and eating in the restaurant and sauna of the new building, both sense-based delights heightened by the travel in the barren environment and at times harsh climate.

The new building combines materials and building types from the history of human activity on the Spitzbergen Islands, first hunting then industrial mining and today tourism.
