lahznimmo architects in association with ASPECT Studios were successful in winning the Australian National University’s design competition to revitalize the public domain of its Canberra campus. Partof an overall $130 million project, the public domain will focus on the upgrade of Union Court and University Avenue with a design that “reflects bold, next generation thinking”.
Union Court is envisaged as a village piazza - the active heart of the campus where all major routes converge. It will have a strong night time presence to attract the whole Canberra community and will become adestination as well as a junction of movement. Central to the Union Court proposal is a green rug – an inviting lawn area with a range of activities that surround it. At night it will feel like a large outdoor room, with catenary lighting stretching over the space.
