Brackley Care Home is a two-storey, 66-bed specialist care home for the operator Kingsley Healthcare on the edge of Brackley, Northamptonshire, which we designed and delivered. The site is a primary-care allocation beside a GP surgery, pharmacy and cottage hospital, on sloping ground.
The home folds around a courtyard and sensory garden: bedroom wings look out both ways and communal rooms open onto planting, not parking. The 66 single suites, 33 per floor and most at about 19.4 sqm, share a cafe, salon, GP room, library and cinema within about 3,083 sqm. The palette follows the medical buildings next door: silicone render, limestone, Siberian larch and grey fibre-cement panels.
We secured full permission for 62 beds in December 2017 and lifted it to 66 in January 2019, before work started. We were architect from brief to handover, RIBA Stages 0 to 7; the home is built, registered and operating. The main image is a visualisation of the completed building; the interior photographs are our own; the drawings are ours.
