BROT

Grau Architects as Architects

A bookstore as a delicacy, a book as a bread to saturate the human mind. This thought was the main idea for the creation of a new concept of curatorial selection of the best book titles in the current book market.

The cleaned up area of the shop is divided by a folded felt curtain into two zones - the sales part of the bookstore and the backstage. We did not unnecessarily burden the customer zone with color and distinctive textures, white shelves, ash tables and galvanized steel create a gallery character of presenting the book as an exhibition of artwork. We painted the storage space and facilities in yellow and emphasized its purely functional use.

The space itself is built on embedded objects composed as a scene perceptible from the street, which attracts passers-by to come closer and look inside. We deliberately set the sales counter in the position of a table as a friendly meeting place to drink a coffee or discuss the books. The central object is a slice of bread where the latest book delicacies are always displayed, other books are presented on the side walls. We avoid the traditional bookstore and present the book as a painting.
