Casa Barcas was designed to be the home of a family connected to the art world and who likes to preserve objects and family memories. From the social areas, to the rest corners, everything needed to be special and to enhance the space in a harmonious and beautiful way. That was the idea that guided the interior design of Felipe de Almeida for this 450m2 house in São Paulo (Brazil).
As the family was growing and needed a larger space, the main structural changes took place in the front area of the house, as the property already had a good structure. The house has three floors: on the main floor is the social area, rooms, library and kitchen; in the upper floor the rooms and, in the lower, the service area, playroom, swimming pool, sauna and garden.
The task was to unite family objects with new items, in addition to the various art objects. But the big challenge, according to the designer Felipe de Almeida, was to choose the prints and textures that the residents like in the composition of the spaces. In the master suite more than 25 textiles were used.
On the walls, works by the artist Malferrari set the tone for the décor. In addition, several comics scattered around the house are paintings from a decoration book written by the resident's grandmother, which his mother ended up painting in poetry and which later became a family book.
“It´s a project watered by art, with the appreciation of Brazilian handcrafts and that promotes coziness and sophistication without being pretentious”, explains Felipe de Almeida.
Other present elements are the natural ones, such as straw, sisal and reeds - at the head of the beds, side tables, baskets and on the floor, bringing together the decor so that everything feels cozy. The couple's suite was decorated with plain linen, flora, checkered, striped, leather and suede fabrics.
In the door that leads to the balcony, three types of curtains were placed - one of smooth and heavier linen, one of very fine linen and a light and dark bamboo blind to enhance the ambience. In the living room, a wood-burning fireplace brightens the atmosphere on cold days and a winter garden helps with cross ventilation. The house also has a system with solar panels and all led lighting.
Another area that stands out is the library / office, where it was decided to insert a blue color in the shelves, bringing life to the space. The highlight was the union between a classic style bookcase and a contemporary color. On the floor, a Kurdo. “It was a lot of work to find this rug, but it was worth seeing the result”, says.
In this same space, the stool in old Kilim gives support to the feet and combined with the striped sofa all in linen. The designer chose not to have side tables, choosing to make up the space a Radica wooden coffee table, which printed functionality and authenticity.
