A piece of land in the state of Querétaro, within a fractionation of the many that exist in the country due to the demand for housing that exists. In this type of land, where the possibilities are limited, the design of the house is conditioned by its immediate surroundings. The premise is to satisfy the spatial needs of the client by creating a kind of fortress to protect the privacy of the inhabitants.
The architectural program was very strict and necessary on the part of the clients. Casa Cobá is designed under this challenge, to create a home that would privilege most of the spaces with privacy and natural light. Light is the material with the greatest prominence in the home.
Casa Cobá distributes the functional program in three levels. The ground floor houses the spaces for public use and is related to the second level (private areas) through an elongated double-height hall that serves as an engine to fill the circulation spaces within the house with light. On the second level there are recreation spaces (roof garden and greenhouse). The extensive program challenged us to break the monotony in the transitions from one space to another, hence the decision to generate a double height in the lobby so that when you need to change from one space to another you have to experience this change in height.
The volume of the project is a consequence of its function. A heavy volumetry, but with a sense of proportionality. Facades with custom-made holes, nothing is left over and nothing is missing. Casa Cobá is a contemporary house with a traditional materiality, whitewashed masonry walls, ceramic floors with natural tones and an apparent concrete wall to distinguish it from the rest of the nearby houses.
