The project is located on an irregular lot, surrounded by agricultural land in process of urbanization, 80 kilometers south of Lima.
CIEN house (one hundred in Spanish) is born from a very precise requirement from the client; to spend one hundred thousand dollars for his house. The program agreed started with 160m2 and progressively increased reaching at the end 230m2. This demanded a singular spatial and structural strategy in order to be aligned with the budget. The second premise demanded as much transparency as possible.
CIEN house explores the idea of indeterminacy. The architecture is abstracted from compositions based on walls that deal with the conventional programmatic peculiarities and tries to define two great space intervals where several things can happen. These intervals are defined between four architectural-structural identities. On the first floor, two concrete elements that contain the only four columns of the project, and the fixed installations such as the kitchen, the bar, and the chimney (more could be incorporated in the future). At the same time, these parallel identities define the social area and orient it towards the farthest point of the lot (north). On the second level appear overlapped two metallic trusses transversal to the previous concrete identities. The whole second floor and the roofs of the first floor hang from them, including the stair.
The project tried to be strategic from the organization of the space, the structural approach, and the concentration of facilities. This is achieved through the articulation of the four identities, which over imposed, virtually define a square in plan, without establishing a clear separation between the inside and the outside.
This intervention is thought as a minimal expression of architectural definition, without any formal or representational pretension and without any intension of bucolic dialectic with the context.
