“For me, writing is listening, it is an act that is more musical than intellectual. In a text, the form must be extremely exact, each comma, each change is measured so that when reading you can feel the waves, a heartbeat, and the change of rhythm as the plot progresses. This unity between form and content is necessary. With writing, it happens the same as with a human being: you cannot separate the soul from the body, a corpse is not a person.”
-Jon Fosse-.
The commission for this house allowed us to investigate the conquest of the Pampas horizon through a unique piece that contains the needs of a family combined in its final years. Inspired by the gallery houses of Corrientes in our country, we sought to re-interpret the houses of the subtropical northeast of Argentina for their new implantation. On a land that grew and expanded naturally to the north, the tectonics that emerged gave us an organic shelter for an interior/exterior living that constantly dialogued with the landscape and its cohabitants.
We decided to solve all the requirements of the family assembly in one plant. Where the limits of the boundaries and the bureaucratic nomenclatures formed main parts of the client's requirements. The deadline for the execution of the work and the budget deficit challenged us even more in the preliminary stages of the project.
For this reason we decided to implement a semi-industrialized system, where the balance of the work "in-situ" would become a craft workshop in constant movement.
The entire metal structure was resolved with the minimum and indispensable supports strategically placed in such a way that the walls that contained the interior were merely a containment enclosure. The selection of the exposed masonry on the interior/exterior helped us achieve that native essence that we were looking for, also contributing to keeping the house isolated and not worrying the client about prolonged maintenance. The opening of the double roof to the north with the rigorous inclination allowed us to privilege the views to the surroundings, control the north/south sunlight in summer and winter and take advantage of the collection of rainwater for future internal irrigation.
Giving priority and leaving the skeleton in view in the public sector, achieving a double roof with a containment frame for the private sectors of the house. The width of the gallery wrapped around the entire perimeter offering a shaded refuge to escape the burning midday sun and at the same time as a place of contemplation for the natural beauty that surrounded it. From there, one could enjoy the changing spectacle of the sky, the dance of the clouds and the play of light and shadow on the landscape and the floors.
In this forgotten corner of the world, the ÜNUN COUNTRY HOUSE becomes a silent witness to the history of local architecture. It is a place where time stands still and words are lost in the echo of the plain, reminding us that at the intersection between man and nature lies the very essence of life and mere being.
