A striking new building has been completed in Groningen, the Netherlands. This climate-neutral commercial property, equipped with Rolflex Compact doors, was both designed and developed by Krikke Realisatie. It features a standout design paired with practical benefits—such as a folding sectional door that goes beyond standard industrial doors, offering more interior space, excellent insulation, and greater design flexibility.
Compact doors in a matching design
During the design phase, careful attention was paid to achieving perfect color coordination. For instance, the Compact doors were finished in the same color as the window frames. There was also a desire to allow natural light into the hall without compromising privacy. To achieve this, fully glazed panels were placed in the center of the doors—high enough to let in light but low enough to prevent people from seeing inside.

From the very beginning, the building was planned with climate neutrality in mind. The folding door play a key role in this goal—they're constructed from highly insulated sandwich panels that help maintain a stable indoor temperature. As a result, heat and cold from outside have minimal impact inside, reducing the need for heating or cooling systems and lowering overall energy consumption and costs.
Plenty of space for installations
In the industrial sector, companies usually need a lot of space for the various machines, devices and installations. Every centimetre of the building should be usable. Compact folding doors save space because they fold up into a small package above the door opening. This commercial building therefore offers plenty of space for interior fittings. Shelves and other items can be placed directly behind the entrance and the full room height can be utilised. Perfect for air conditioning, pipework and adequate lighting.
In this project, one of the Compact doors was even fitted with extended tracks. This means that the door package was placed high up directly under the ceiling, leaving space below for other installations such as crane tracks. Very practical to utilise the full potential of the space.
