Corte Renèe

A small historical village has been recovered among the vineyards in the hinterland of Lake Garda, an abandoned heritage full of memory has been brought back to life generating poetic spaces measured by an intimate relationship between new and old.

We often talk about urban regeneration, but no less important is the revitalization of rural sites that allows us to reuse the large amount of disused rural buildings that lie “waiting” in our territories, avoiding in this way the unsustainable land consumption.

The empty volumes of the rural buildings have been reused, but the deeper aim of this regeneration is reclaiming the humanization of the spaces, of the atmospheres and of the material culture that are still alive and pulsating in the ancient structures.  This is fundamental in the attempt to provide an answer to the needs of the modern society that is increasingly alienated and standardized.

The project moves on two actions: the total preservation of the existing in its poetic nakedness and the calibrated grafting of new devices that allow the insertion of the necessary elements for the new living conditions (stairs, services, facilities...). These elements were designed following 24 rules, then collected in a catalog of actions. Each rule reinterprets a constituent element of architecture, generating contemporary objects that politely declare themselves with respect to the existing and that have in common with it the clarity of a construction method that we also wanted to be material and imperfect.

Thus it is that stones, which were once used by the farmers of these fields to build their houses, are mixed with a reinforced concrete animated by the local lands to build a small extension in continuity with the landscape.
