To create space for two customs boats, Vautz Mang Architects succeeded not only in designing a functional new boat hall but also in making the harbor shine.

The new building consists of U-shaped floating steel pontoons. A self-floating central pontoon divides the hall into two berths, allowing maintenance of the customs boats from all sides.

The main challenge was to keep the boats invisible from the outside for operational reasons while ensuring maximum daylight inside the hall. This was achieved through a combination of lightweight polycarbonate panels from Rodeca GmbH and aluminum trapezoidal profiles. The 40 mm thick opal panels used have a light transmission value of approx. 25%.

Thanks to its translucent exterior, the new boat hall also becomes a visual highlight in the harbor at night. The structure shines brightly on the water while being flooded with natural light during the day.
