Dementia Intensive Care Unit

Dementia Intensive Care Unit

Ingleton Wood have been instructed by Norfolk & Waveney Mental Health Trust to provide detailed plans for the pioneering new 36-bed Dementia Intensive Care Unit, due to start on site in Autumn 2010. The innovative design incorporates the latest research from Stirling University and focuses on what the dementia patients need for optimum wellbeing.

Bedrooms, designed to look like a real home rather than a clinical institution, are based around courtyard gardens, containing outdoor memory prompts to stimulate patients and trigger fond memories of Norfolk seascapes, history and countryside. The scheme is aiming to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating through the use of highly sustainable construction techniques and renewable features such as ground source heat pumps and photovolaic cells. The Unit is currently being assessed for planning approval by Norwich City Council and is scheduled to open in the Winter of 2011/12.
